I have been kayaking on the American River since 2013. The kayak has allowed me to get closer to the wildlife, and to experience how the animals live in and around the river. Being at eye level to daily lives of the birds that live here year-round and those that are seasonal has really given me appreciation of how vital it is to keep healthy water ways intact for the benefit of wildlife. I have witnessed many amazing things on the river and have learned a lot about my avian friends. We have many year round species and get many different seasonal birds. My favorite is when a not so common species comes to visit for either a few days or even a few weeks. I have included some of our uncommon guests here. I hope you enjoy the images!
